The Santa Fe Trail Center

I am still sitting in Alma, NE and so far the days have been lovely. There are a lot of song birds around with the lake next door and the trees are beginning to flower. Today's pictures are of the exterior grounds of the Santa Fe Trail Center that I visited on Sunday. They have a nice collection of buildings that they have brought to the site and restored. Tomorrow I'll show you what I saw inside the center.
A sod house. These were built because of the lack of wood in this part of the country.

A view inside the sod house.

Another interior view of the soddy. A pretty bleak way to live.

The train station.

A country church.

Inside the church, which is still being renovated.

The one-room schoolhouse.

Inside the school, with those 'historic' desks again. I'm still not convinced that if I used them they should be classified 'historic'.
