A bit of the Museum of the West recalled the life of Judge Roy Bean. Known as 'the law west of the Pecos' Judge Roy was a colorful character to say the least. Appointed by the Texas Rangers to serve in an area devoid of law Judge Roy, a former shopkeeper, held court in his combination courtroom, bar and pool hall. It is said that he often recessed court in order to sell beer to the audience. He was also known to have fined a dead man and held a prize fight on a sand bar in the middle of the Rio Grande River because it was illegal in both the United States and Mexico.
