Another day of laying low.

Not much is planned for today other than to begin preparations for getting back on the road. Water tank needs filling, holding tanks need emptying and loose gear needs to be stowed. I still haven't decided where I'm headed or even in which direction, but that will work itself out once I start moving.

The good news around here yesterday was that the four fires that broke out yesterday were all quickly brought under control. Two of them were in Mesa Verde National park and the other two were in Mancos which is about 20 miles away.  The temperatures have lowered a bit and yesterday for the first time in almost a week we didn't hit triple digits. The humidity has also come up a bit which helps lower the fire danger. Now if we can just get by the fourth of July without any mentally challenged individuals setting the countryside on fire with their uncontrolled pyrotechnics.

My next move today is to take a four block walk to have a visit with the Colonel Sanders and ask him to fix lunch for me. Then I will have my walk out of the way, a full belly and I can spend the rest of the day enjoying the good life.

  1. Think they should make fireworks by individuals against the law with a hefty fee and/or jail. Thinking of the firefighters who gave their lives this week…more tragic than I know the words for, but how terrible if it had been a fire caused by carelessnes…a fire that could have been avoided.

    1. I know, that was the first thing I looked to see and it was a lightning caused fire. Arsonists should perish in the fires they set.

  3. I like the Colonel's chicken pot pies. Haven't had one of those in AGES! A friend of mine is a firefighter. She really detests this time of year. They should be banned this year as we're now in a minor draught. The grass is turning very brown. But I guess they are still going to allow it. Go where it's cooler! I love dropping down paper maps & figuring out routes.

  5. So glad to hear the fires are under control. Such a sad sad week. You're not going to know how to act with the cold front you're having - under triple digits - wow!! I let the Colonel do my cooking sometimes also.
