Spectacular sums up the day, but long tells the whole story. We left at 10:00 am and arrived at Antonito at 4:40 pm. That's a 6 hour and 40 minute train ride and the it was another hour and 10 minutes on a bus through the mountains back to Chama. The day was perfect, the scenery was fantastic and I only took 137 pictures. I will sort them out in the next few days and post some of them. In the meantime here is one to tease you.
Our carriage awaits.
As we cross a trestle the drop to the river was only 640 feet.
More tomorrow, but rest assured today I enjoyed the good life.
I generally don't like trains, but that trip might change my mind.
ReplyDeleteIt was super.
DeleteIt looks like you had a fantastic day!!!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have been better.
DeleteI'm not sure but it looks like you had fun...
ReplyDeleteBe sure, I did.
DeleteGreat day for you. I will make sure I get there either this summer or next.
ReplyDeleteYou won't be sorry.
DeleteIs that a steam engine? Sure sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteSure is, all they run is steam on a narrow gauge.
DeleteSounds like you really had a great day and were able to enjoy that train ride to the max. Seems that lots of train rides include a bus ride somewhere, either at the end or somewhere else. Guess that's just the nature of trains, they travel on tracks, and those tracks don't go everywhere we'd like to go.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more great photos, John. Thanks for sharing.
The track only runs between the two towns. They run two trains a day, one from Chama and on from Antonito. They meet at Osier. You can ride the whole line in either direction or you can ride halfway to Osier and switch trains for the return trip. I opted to ride the whole line. It was a great ride.
DeleteHerb and I rode that train several years ago. It is a beautiful trip. Glad you enjoyed it and will look forward to more pictures.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you'd been there. It is a great trip.
DeleteA long train ride but with some fascinating scenery. Look forward to seeing the pictures you took.
ReplyDeleteI've got to get them sorted.
DeleteOh please don't show any more of those drop-off shots. I can't look down.
ReplyDeleteIt was only 640 feet.
