Yesterday turned into a computer marathon day. First, JoAnn's computer turned out to be a five hour project that included opening the computer and reseating the RAM, updating the virus protection, running scan disk and defragging the hard drive. Once completed I was able to return the laptop to her operating at factory default speed. While busy patting myself on the back I walked up to the mail box and found the reinstall disks from ACER waiting for me. So the reinstallation began. I installed all four disks that came in the package and then went on the internet to get the latest versions of AVG virus protection, HP printer software and the camera software for Mr. Canon. These were huge downloads and knowing how Hughes Net loves to put people in internet time out for excessive downloads in a 24 hour period I opted to wait until 1 a.m. to begin the downloads. Hughes Net allows downloads between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. when the net is not busy with no penalty, plus the download speed is considerably faster at that time with fewer people on the net. The net result was that it was three in the morning before I found the bed. Today I will be running Mr. Acer through his paces to see if the rebuild was successful. Another problem is, having left Elephant Butte I also lost the use of my friend Clay's transfer cable that he was kind enough to provide for the earlier installs. I have ordered my own transfer cable from Amazon that should arrive in the next couple of days and that will allow me to complete the transfer of my personal files, address book and favorites without having to retype everything. New computers are always fun, but this one has been a particular joy that has required the full use of my vocabulary
The rest of the day will be spent testing Mr. Acer and I'm thinking a siesta might be in order to help me enjoy the good life.
