Last week Mr. Dell, our computer, began groaning and showing evidence of having an ailment of some nature. Yesterday it was decided to do a little internal investigation. The hope was one of the many cooling fans was in distress, a situation that could be easily corrected, but that was not the case. It was determined that the main power supply was in sick and then a decision had to be made. Do we spend the money to replace the power supply or is it wiser to apply the funds to the purchase of a more up to date CPU and retire Mr. Dell. Given the age of Mr. Dell and more importantly the miles he has bounced around with us it was decided that Mr. Acer will be joining us in the next couple of days and Mr. Dell will be retired. Now all we have to do is keep our fingers crossed and hope the Mr. Dell will understand and stay on the job until Mr. Acer is ready to go to work.
Making the decision on a new computer is not an easy matter. Even with the experience I've. had or maybe because of it there were many factors to weigh. I ended up choosing a desktop because I really don't need the portability and even though the laptop would presumably be more rugged you get so much more computing power for the same amount of money in a desktop.
The rest of today will be spent beginning the process of backing up data that I will want to transfer to Mr. Acer. this should be a long and boring process, but it's still part of enjoying the good life.
