Uncle

Yesterday a key decision was made when I decided to park the laptop with Windows 8 on it until my desktop with Windows 7 on it goes to the computer happy hunting ground. The problem that developed was that Windows 8 was making changes to mail and other programs that Win 7 didn't like. Throw into the mix that Bill Gates doesn't go overboard to accommodate Chrome and I-Google and the conflicts continued to mount. The last straw was when 7 wouldn't allow me to access my email contacts in Live Mail. At that point I began to rebuild Windows 7 to what I was comfortable with with a few changes. My new home page is ighome which replaces iGoogle as my home page. iGoogle is disappearing in November any way, so it just made sense to go on and set a new home page. Now all I have to do is populate the home page with applications the make my life easier. I have also deleted Windows Live Mail and will be using Google mail exclusively in the future. Being a Libra requires balance and this didn't seem achievable running both Windows 7 and 8. At least not what I was comfortable with.

Todays plans are geared to the weekend mode. We have already visited the rec hall and Ed has dropped by for a visit. I also took care of my Sanitary Engineer duties so the rest of the day is cleared to do what ever I turn up. I think I will manage to enjoy the good life, especially now the Windows 8 has been shelved.

  1. I hope 8 dies before I have to try to use it. I am very content with 7.

  3. John, I don't want you to repeat this to anyone, so you are sworn to complete secrecy on this confession. I'm still using Windows Vista 64 bit Home on an HP tower! We have a laptop running Windows Xp, and even a Netbook running Windows XP.

Donna is the talented, progressive and modern woman with the technical edge.(that's why I married her) She's running with Windows 7 on her HP desktop computer. We did have to play musical chairs with her monitor awhile back. Her nice big new monitor died, so I gave her my monitor, and I took my old Gateway monitor from my last computer.

For some reason, we have 2 old destop computers that we don't use for much, but they still work, just aren't very fast compared to the newer ones.

Donna just found a new laptop for her sister on sale, and it was running Windows 7 so she told her to grab it quick!

I too, have a book on Windows 8, but alas, I haven't gotten very far into it...and haven't made any more progress on it. You have the technical edge there, since you have climbed up the learning curve to a higher level. I say we need to stand pat, and see what happens next. OR, we could do like Marsha says, since she's pretty sharp on this stuff.

    1. Russ, I was into computing before Windows and have made the transition through the various versions of Windows. For 11 years I ran my own computing company with 5 technicians working for me and working with networking as we installed schools, police departments and 911 systems. I can say without a doubt this is the worst version of Windows I've seen. But then again, as I age how for can I be from my VCR flashing 12:00 permanently?

  4. I'm with the other Vista users. And I'm hanging onto it until there is no other hope.

  5. I considered buying another laptop with Windows 7 just to keep as a backup, but I didn't. I think we should have an option as to what operating system is put on our computer.

    1. I just checked today and Amazon has several laptops that show Windows 7 as the operating system. So there are some out there.
